Celebrating 50 years of Bill Wyman’s solo music, The Best Of brings together recordings from his first solo album, 1974’s Monkey Grip, through to 2024’s Drive My Car.

Released as Bill celebrates his 90th birthday, the new collection traces a solo career in which he has continually explored different styles, sounds and musical collaborations away from his work with the Rolling Stones.

The 2CD edition features 40 tracks across two discs. Disc One brings together 20 highlights from Bill’s solo catalogue, including ‘Monkey Grip Glue’, ‘A New Fashion’, ‘Come Back Suzanne’, ‘(Si Si) Je Suis Un Rock Star’, ‘Stuff (Can’t Get Enough)’ and ‘Drive My Car’.

Disc Two celebrates Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings, with 20 original songs, classic R&B, blues and Rock ’n’ Roll interpretations and live recordings from the band.

Bill released his first solo collection of self-written songs, Monkey Grip, in May 1974, recording with musicians including Dr. John, Leon Russell, Little Feat’s Lowell George and Crosby, Stills & Nash drummer Dallas Taylor.

The albums that followed gave Bill the freedom to experiment with new technology and different musical styles. His early-1980s recordings produced two UK Top 40 hits with ‘(Si Si) Je Suis Un Rock Star’ and ‘A New Fashion’, while later projects brought together an extraordinary cast of friends and collaborators including Van Morrison, Joe Walsh, Chris Rea, Ray Cooper, Robbie McIntosh and Guy Fletcher.

In the 1990s Bill began assembling what he called “my own band”, Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings – a project he described as being “almost like doing solo albums, but with a lot of friends”.

Drawing on Bill’s lifelong love of R&B, blues and Rock ’n’ Roll, the Rhythm Kings developed from a studio project into a hugely popular live band. Over the years its line-up included Georgie Fame, Gary Brooker, Andy Fairweather-Low, Albert Lee and Beverley Skeete, while recordings featured guests including Eric Clapton, George Harrison and Mark Knopfler.

A separate 12-track vinyl edition of The Best Of presents a selection of highlights from Bill’s solo catalogue, spanning Monkey Grip through to Drive My Car.
